Stratford wins five weight classes, takes team title at D.C. Everest’s Lehrke Tournament

WESTON – The Stratford wrestling team had five individual championships and three runner-up finishes to take the team title at the 63rd annual Fred Lehrke Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at D.C. Everest High School.

Stratford freshman Gavin Drexler remains undefeated this season after winning the 113-pound title. Drexler (28-0) won a major decision, 15-5, over previously unbeaten Liam Hughes of Milwaukee Marquette (22-1) in the championship match.

Senior Manny Drexler (26-3) earned the 120-pound title with a pin over Dawson Lambert of Tomah; Max Schwabe (29-1) won the 132-pound championship; Trevor Dennee improved to 28-1 with a major decision in the 182-pound title match; and senior 285-pounder Dylan Schoenherr also moved to 28-1 this season with five pins in his five matches for the Tigers.

Jacob Heiden (138), Derek Marten (152) and Hunter Ford (170) each finished second, Dillon Kirsch (126) and Mavrick Licciardi (145) finished third, and Devin Dennee (160) and Trevor Steiner (195) were fourth in their weight classes for Stratford.

Auburndale finished seventh in the team standings with five wrestlers finishing in the top six. Dylan Baird was fourth at 138, Nikolas Engelbright (182) and Brice Theil (195) finished fifth, and Hunter Godard (126) and Isaiah Hasenohrl (132) were sixth.

Stratford has a nonconference match at Medford on Tuesday, while Auburndale is off until Jan. 17 when it hosts Chequamegon.
