MARSHFIELD – Marshfield had the lead early, but Stevens Point ended both the second and third periods with a flurry of goals and downed the Tigers 9-4 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey game Thursday night at the Marshfield Ice Arena.
The Tigers led 2-1 after a pair of goals by Isaac Wellens, and after Stevens Point tied the game, Marshfield regained the lead when Sawyer Schindler scored on a power play 6:42 into the second period.
Stevens Point (12-2-1, 4-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) responded with three goals in a 3-minute span to open up a 5-3 lead.
Marshfield’s Nate Boson scored 35 seconds into the third period on another power play, but that would be it for the Tigers.
Stevens Point put the game away with four-straight goals, including scores by Dayne Hoyord and Barrett Brooks, who both finished with hat tricks.
Marshfield is now 11-5 overall and 3-3 in the WVC. The Tigers’ next game is Saturday at home against Antigo.
