STRATFORD – The Stratford girls basketball team clamped down defensively in the second half to turn a tight game into a double-digit victory.
Leading 19-18 at halftime, the Tigers held Edgar to just 11 points in the second half and won 42-29 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Thursday night at Stratford High School.
The Tigers remain in a tie for first place with Wausau Newman Catholic in the Marawood South, improving to 9-1 in conference play and 10-3 overall. Edgar is now 5-7 and 3-5 in the Marawood South.
Mariah Zawislan had 13 points, and Breanna Ackley had 10 points, five rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the way for Stratford.
Makenna Guden was the only Edgar player in double figures, finishing with 12. The rest of the team made just seven shots in the game.
Stratford will play at Cloverbelt Conference East Division leader and undefeated Colby (12-0) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
