Assumption pulls past Auburndale girls basketball

AUBURNDALE – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption outscored Auburndale by 13 points in the second half to bust open a tight game and defeated the Apaches 56-41 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Thursday at Auburndale High School.

Assumption led 22-20 at halftime before busting the game open in the second half with a 34-21 advantage.

Maddy Bohn had 18 points and Jessie Grundhoffer added 11 for the Royals, who improve to 10-4 and 7-3 in the Marawood South.

Auburndale (5-9, 3-7 Marawood South) shot just 34 percent (12 of 35) from the field but held close for a while with five 3-pointers, including two each from Natalie Aue and Georgi Schmutzer, who finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Auburndale plays a nonconference game at Greenwood on Monday.
