WAUSAU – Wausau West clinched its fourth-straight Wisconsin Valley Conference boys hockey championship with a 7-1 win over Marshfield on Wednesday at Marathon Park.
West clinched at least a tie for the WVC title with the win over Marshfield, and went on to clinch the outright championship by beating Stevens Point on Friday.
West scored the first six goals of the game as Marc Sippel and Cade Lemmer each had a pair of goals. Emmer added two assists and Sippel had another.
Ryan Krueger scored Marshfield’s only goal at the 7:21 mark of the third period.
Marshfield is now 15-7 overall and finishes the WVC season with a 6-4 record and a third-place finish.
West also won the outright title in 2016 and shared the title with Stevens Point the past two seasons. West has won or shared 12 conference titles since 1999, including 10 of the past 12.
Marshfield plays at Mosinee on Saturday and hosts Baldwin-Woodville on Monday to finish its regular-season schedule. The Tigers will open WIAA postseason action Feb. 14 at Chippewa Falls.
