SCHOFIELD – The Marshfield boys basketball team came back from a 10-point first-half deficit to defeat D.C. Everest 85-79 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Saturday afternoon at the Greenheck Fieldhouse.
The win is the Tigers’ 10th in a row and pushes their record to 13-4 overall and 9-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. D.C. Everest falls to 13-6 and 6-5 in conference play.
Marshfield continued its hot shooting from outside, making 16 of 28 from 3-point range in the win.
Brant Bohman and Preston Wagner each made five 3-pointers, and scored 23 and 21 points, respectively for Marshfield.
Isaac Meverden scored all 17 of his points in the second half as the Tigers came back from six points down at intermission to pull out the win.
Marshfield trailed 35-29 at halftime before finally pulling ahead at the 10-minute mark of the second half.
Tommy Olson hit four 3-pointers and also scored 17 points for the Tigers.
Marshfield sits on top of the WVC standings with one conference game left – Feb. 21 at home against Stevens Point. If the Tigers win that game, they would earn at least a share of its first conference title since they tied Wausau West for the crown in 2010. Marshfield’s only other WVC boys basketball title came in 1992, when it also shared the championship with Wausau West.
Marshfield hosts Eau Claire North on Tuesday and Eau Claire Memorial next Saturday, Feb. 16, in a pair of nonconference games.
