Marshfield boys hockey holds off Mosinee

MOSINEE – Max Heller scored twice, including a powerplay goal midway through the third period that helped the Marshfield boys hockey team pull away from Mosinee and win 6-4 in a nonconference game Saturday night at the Mosinee City Recreation Arena.

Heller and Ryan Krueger scored in the first period, and Sawyer Schindler added a goal 25 seconds into the second to put Marshfield up 3-0.

Mosinee fought back and scored three goals in the second period, surrounding a Marshfield goal by Evan Weister, and the Tigers took a 4-3 lead into the third.

Isaac Wellens and Heller scored on power plays in the opening 7 minutes to help the Tigers regain control and push their lead to three.

A.J. Trierweiler had 28 saves in goal for Marshfield (16-7).

Marshfield will finish its regular-season schedule Monday at home against Baldwin-Woodville for Senior Night. The game will start at 7 p.m. at the Marshfield Ice Arena.

The Tigers open WIAA postseason play with a regional final at Chippewa Falls on Thursday.
