ORLANDO, Fla. – The Marshfield softball team opened its 2019 season by going 2-1 in games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World from Monday through Thursday.
Marshfield beat Dublin Jerome (Ohio) 8-5, lost to Grayslake North (Ill.) 11-2, and beat Deerfield (Ill.) 9-2.
In the opener against Dublin Jerome, Marshfield scored six runs in the first inning, which included two-RBI doubles by Maddie Mews and Madelyn Bornbach.
Sandy Costa earned the win, striking out five in three innings. Courtney Donahue allowed three runs and struck out three in four innings of work.
Against Grayslake, Donahue suffered the loss, giving up eight runs, only three of which were earned, in four innings.
Bornbach went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, and Jenna Jakobi had a single and a triple for the Tigers.
Marshfield scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to pull past Deerfield in the finale of the trip.
Donahue threw four scoreless innings of relief to earn the win, striking out five for Marshfield.
Jenna Jakobi had a single, a double, a triple and two runs scored, and Lauryn Jakobi had a single, a double and four RBIs for the Tigers.
Mews, Bohman and Jordyn Pretsch added two hits each for Marshfield.
Marshfield is scheduled to host Stevens Point in its Wisconsin Valley Conference and home opener on Tuesday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds at 4:30 p.m.
