WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Auburndale softball team rallied from an early deficit to knock off Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 5-4 in the Marawood Conference South Division opener for both teams on Monday.

Assumption led 3-0 after two innings, knocking out Auburndale starting pitcher Maggie Willfahrt after she walked eight.

Hailey Grimm entered for the Apaches (3-1 overall) and pitched superbly, striking out three in 5 1/3 innings of relief, allowing just one run.

Auburndale rallied to take a 4-3 lead with a two-run sixth inning, and added another in the seventh. Assumption scored its only run off Grimm in the bottom of the seventh, but the Apaches’ hurler was able to get out of the jam and finish off the victory.

Willfhart had two doubles and Abby Koopman went 3-for-4 for Auburndale, which had eight hits.
