WAUSAU – Marshfield scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning and held off a rally in the bottom of the frame to beat Wausau West 4-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game Tuesday at West High School.

The Tigers improve to 7-6 overall and remain in first place at 4-1 in the WVC. West is now 1-4 and 0-2 in conference play.

West scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie and take the lead.

The Tigers responded with a scrappy seventh inning, plating four runs on just one hit.

Isaiah Baierl knocked in Brant Bohman with a single, Mason Coffren walked and scored, and Baierl and Caleb Specht both scored on a wild pitch to put the Tigers up 4-1.

West scored twice off Marshfield starter Will Voss, who then turned it over to Coffren as he got the final out and the save. Voss struck out four, walked two, and allowed six hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Marshfield will host Wausau West in what it hopes will finally be its home opener on Thursday at Jack Hackman Field. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
