Columbus Catholic softball blasts Owen-Withee

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic softball team completed a season sweep of Owen-Withee, beating the Blackhawks for the second time this week as it won 15-5 on Thursday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

Columbus scored five times in the first inning and added six more in the second to take a commanding 11-0 lead. The Dons eventually finished off the win with a pair of runs in the fifth, ending it via the 10-run rule.

Brooke Neider went 3-for-3, scored three times, and drove in four runs to lead the Dons’ offense.

Columbus (2-1 overall and Cloverbelt Conference East Division) smacked 16 hits in the victory.

Taylor Tolppi and Maren Seefluth each had three hits, and Annika Brown and Addison Baierl both had two hits for the Dons.

Baierl was the winning pitcher, striking out three in the five-inning complete game effort.

Columbus plays at Colby/Abbotsford on Friday.
