Greenwood holds off Spencer in battle of Cloverbelt East baseball leaders

SPENCER – Greenwood pulled out to a five-run lead and held off a Spencer rally to beat the Rockets 5-4 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game on Thursday at Spencer High School.

With the victory, the Indians (7-1, 5-1 Cloverbelt East) pull to within one-half game of Spencer (6-1 overall and Cloverbelt East) for the lead in the conference standings.

Greenwood scored four times in the second inning and added another in the sixth to take a 5-0 lead. Spencer rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn’t get another to tie the game.

Carson Hildebrandt had a pair of RBIs, and Chase Higgins and Dominic Post each drove in a run in the four-run sixth innings for the Rockets.

Spencer hosts Owen-Withee on Friday.
