Marshfield baseball sweeps doubleheader from Chippewa Falls with pair of walk-off wins

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield baseball team waited until the last minute in both ends of a doubleheader against Chippewa Falls on Saturday, winning each game in walk-off fashion at Jack Hackman Field.

Isaiah Baierl capped off Game 1 with a walk-off home run in a 7-6 victory for the Tigers, and teammate Brant Bohman ripped a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game to lift Marshfield to a 3-2 win and a sweep of the twinbill.

Marshfield is now 10-7 while knocking Chippewa Falls, the leader in the Big Rivers Conference standings, to 12-5.

Marshfield led 6-2 in the opening game before the Cardinals rallied to tie the game with three runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth.

Baierl slammed the home run to lead off the seventh inning to grab the victory for the Tigers.

Ryan Krueger, Baierl and Riley Boushack each had two hits, with Boushack driving in a pair of runs for Marshfield.

In Game 2, the game was scoreless until the fifth when the Cardinals grabbed a 1-0 lead.

Marshfield tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, before Chippewa Falls regained a one-run advantage with a tally in the seventh.

The first two batters reached for Marshfield in the bottom of the seventh before Bohman had the double to score both and give the Tigers the sweep.

Baierl went 3-for-3 and Krueger added two more hits in the second game.

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday and plays at Rapids on Thursday in a Wisconsin Valley Conference series. Stevens Point leads the conference with a 7-1 record, while Marshfield is in second at 5-1.
