MARSHFIELD – Josh Zwicke delivered an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to lift Wisconsin Rapids past Marshfield 4-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball game on Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.
With the victory, Wisconsin Rapids overtakes Marshfield for second place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference standings, improving to 7-2 (10-3 overall). Marshfield is now 10-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
Wisconsin Rapids led 3-1 after three innings before Marshfield rallied to tie the game with a two-run sixth. Mason Coffren walked with the bases loaded to tie the game.
The score remained tied until Zwicke’s hit in the eighth against Marshfield pitcher Will Voss.
Marshfield could not score in the bottom of the inning as Tyler Beyer finished off the game with three innings to earn the win.
Voss went the distances for the Tigers, striking out five. He did not walk a batter.
Ryan Krueger, Ben Gust, Riley Boushack and Isaac Meverden each had two hits to total Marshfield’s eight hits in the game. Meverden and Krueger had RBIs, along with Coffren.
Zwicke had three of the Raiders’ eight hits and had two RBIs.
Marshfield will play at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday.
