STRATFORD – Hailey Grimm threw six strong innings, allowing just one run, to help lead the Auburndale softball team to a 7-2 win over Stratford on Tuesday at Hilgemann Field.
Grimm struck out one and walked two in shutting down the Tigers, throwing five scoreless innings before Stratford scored once in the sixth. The Tigers added another in the seventh against Auburndale reliever Maggie Willfahrt.
Auburndale (8-3, 5-2 Marawood Conference South Division) scored once in the second inning and added two more in the third. Leading 3-1, the Apaches blew open the game with a four-run seventh.
Carly Willfahrt and Grimm both had two hits, Abby Koopman drove in two runs, and Mackenzie Raab and Faith Hafermann each scored twice for the Apaches.
Stratford had 10 hits, but mustered just the two runs. Jessamae Rice, Mazie Nagel and Brooke Grell each had two hits for the Tigers (6-6, 4-3 Marawood South).
The two teams will meet again in a Marawood Conference South Division game Thursday at Auburndale.
Stratford picked up a nonconference win over Rib Lake on Monday, 12-3.
Maria Schoenfuss earned the win, striking out eight. Rice had three hits and four RBIs, and Mariah Zawislan had two hits and scored four runs for the Tigers.
