WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Nina Hashimoto scored with just less than 20 minutes remaining to help the Marshfield girls soccer team forge a 1-1 tie with Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday night at Lincoln High School.
Ashley Abbott scored 16:27 into the second half for Rapids, before Hashimoto’s goal nine minutes later tied the game and neither team was able to find the net the rest of the way.
Mikayla Brueggen had nine saves in goal for the Tigers, who improve to 6-6-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.
“We passed the ball nicely and connected many passes for quite a nice game to watch,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “It was an even game with both teams unable to penetrate the stingy defenses.
“We had some players really step up their game tonight, led by Courtney Meyer, Nicole Simon, and Paige Preston. Ana Paape lead the defensive charge with many defenders playing a key role in their play to preserve the tie. Ally Bakke, Eva Wahlstrom, Cassidy Kolstad, Paige Gruenling, and Aly Dietsche all played strong defense.”
Miranda Nieman had four saves for Wisconsin Rapids (7-3-2, 6-1-1 WVC).
Both teams return to action Thursday. Marshfield hosts Merrill and Wisconsin Rapids is at Stevens Point.
