MARSHFIELD – D.C. Everest scored twice in the first inning and held on to beat Marshfield 3-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Tuesday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
Calista Fuehrer’s double scored two runs in the top of the first inning and the Evergreens led the rest of the way.
Marshfield cut the deficit in half in the fourth when pinch runner Brooklyn Bohman scored on a sacrifice fly by Maddie Mews.
The Tigers would try to rally in the seventh, after Everest had taken a 3-1 lead, as Mews and Taylor Barwick both had singles. However, D.C. Everest was able to cut down a runner at home on a ground ball to shortstop, then throw to second to get another runner to end the game.
Megan Wilde threw a complete game for the Evergreens (8-7, 6-3 Wisconsin Valley Conference), striking out six and walking just one while allowing just the one run in the fourth inning.
Courtney Donahue had 11 strikeouts and three walks in a complete-game effort for the Tigers, who fall to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference.
Marshfield plays a doubleheader at Wausau East on Thursday before heading to Escanaba, Mich., for a tournament on Friday and Saturday.
