MARSHFIELD – Loyal busted open a tight game with a five-run fourth inning and went on to defeat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 11-2 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Tuesday night at Jack Hackman Field.
Loyal led 3-2 after three innings before busting open the game with the big fourth inning. The Greyhounds (7-5, 7-3 Cloverbelt East) added three more runs during the next two innings against a pair of Columbus relievers.
Trevyn Wilke earned the win for Loyal, striking out five in 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Starter Maverick Roehl had seven strikeouts over the first three innings.
Columbus Catholic had just two hits – singles from Noah Taylor and Bryce Fuerlinger – and falls to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the Cloverbelt East.
Both teams return to action Thursday. Loyal hosts Neillsville and Columbus Catholic is at home against Spencer. Both games begin at 5 p.m.
