Marshfield softball sweeps doubleheader at Wausau East

WAUSAU – The Marshfield softball team kept its slim Wisconsin Valley Conference title hopes alive with a doubleheader sweep at Wausau East on Monday.

The Tigers won 12-2 and 6-4 to improve to 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Marshfield sits one game behind first-place Stevens Point with two games left. Point plays home against Wausau West on Tuesday and at Wausau East on Thursday. Marshfield hosts Wausau West on Wednesday and plays at West on Thursday.

Marshfield scored eight times in the first three innings of Game 1 and rolled to the win in five innings via the 10-run rule.

Courtney Donahue allowed just two hits and two walks, while striking out six, to earn the win. She also had a single and scored three times for the Tigers.

Jenna Jakobi had a single, two doubles, and five RBIs, and scored three runs to lead the Marshfield offense. Loryn Jakobi added a pair of hits and three RBIs.

In Game 2, Marshfield trailed 4-3 before scoring three times in the sixth innings to pull out the victory.

Jenna Jakobi and Maddie Mews each had two hits for Marshfield.
