SPENCER – The Spencer High School volleyball team wanted to make a statement to show that it is a player in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division championship race.

The Rockets made that statement Tuesday, beating previously undefeated Colby 3-2 in a tight match at Spencer High School.

Courtney Schulz had 27 kills and six service aces to lead Spencer to a 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 16-14 win over the Hornets to improve to 16-3 overall and 4-1 in the Cloverbelt East. The Rockets remain one game in back of undefeated Owen-Withee.

“Wow, that was an awesome high school volleyball match,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “I am so proud of the team and how they stuck together and pushed through in five games. Our success came from our team defense and a consistent attack.”

Tara Matter and Aubrie Bissonette added eight kills each, Kylie Esser had 19 assists and Kyleigh Hebert added 17 assists, and Dani Johnson led the Rockets’ defense with 32 digs.

Spencer plays at winless Granton on Thursday.
