MARSHFIELD – Gilman scored five runs in the top of the first inning and held on the rest of the way to beat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 8-2 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Monday at Reeths Field.
Gilman improves to 9-6 overall and 9-5 in the Cloverbelt East. Columbus Catholic finishes its regular-season schedule with a 6-10 overall record and a 6-7 mark in the Cloverbelt East.
Columbus had just two hits and scored both of its runs in the sixth inning. Jaden Nienast had a double and scored on a single by Bryce Fuerlinger in the inning.
The Dons open WIAA postseason action Thursday at home against Port Edwards. Game time, at Jack Hackman Field in Marshfield, is 5 p.m.
