MERRILL – The Marshfield Post 54 Junior American Legion baseball team had its bats swinging on Wednesday as it blasted Merrill in a doubleheader, winning 26-8 and 11-0, to improve to 5-0 this summer.
Marshfield put up crooked numbers in four of its five at-bats of Game 1, scoring seven times in the second inning, nine runs in the fourth and eight more in the fifth.
Nine different Blue Devils had hits and 10 batters scored at least two runs in the victory.
Leadoff hitter Nick Urban led the way, going 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs.
Ky Swanson also had three hits, including a triple, and four RBIs, and Chase Higgins had three hits and three RBIs for Marshfield.
Logan Homolka added three RBIs and Max Heller had a double and two RBIs as well for the Blue Devils.
In Game 2, Homolka threw a six-inning no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking two.
Marshfield was able to put the game away via the 10-run rule with a six-run sixth innings.
Urban continued his hot hitting with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Riley Bauman added a single, a double, and three RBIs, and Higgins drove in a pair of runs for Marshfield.
Marshfield will play a doubleheader at Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
