EAU CLAIRE – The Spencer/Marshfield Columbus Catholic football team dropped its second straight game, losing Saturday to first-place Eau Claire Regis 48-28.
The Rockets fall to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the Cloverbelt Conference with the loss. Spencer/Columbus must go 3-1 over its final four games to qualify for the WIAA postseason.
Spencer/Columbus hosts Cadott in Columbus Catholic’s homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Beell Stadium.
Eau Claire Regis improves to 5-0 overall and in the Cloverbelt, clinching a WIAA playoff spot. The Ramblers play undefeated Colby (5-0, 4-0 Cloverbelt) at Colby on Friday.
Regis scored four touchdowns in the first half to pull ahead 28-7.
Spencer/Columbus finally got its offense rolling in the fourth quarter as Jordan Buss ran for a score and threw for another. Paul Selz added a touchdown pass to Jared Boyle, but the Rockets couldn’t stop Regis.
The Ramblers kept pace, also scoring three touchdowns in the final 12 minutes.
The Rockets were held to just 38 yards rushing and gave up 409 to Regis.
Buss finished with 167 yards passing for Spencer/Columbus, including touchdowns of 50 yards to Travis Pischel and 50 yards to Brandon Nikolai.
