AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale boys basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start, losing to unbeaten Marathon 55-42 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Tuesday at Auburndale High School.
Marathon jumped on the Apaches (6-5, 4-3 Marawood South) with an 18-8 advantage in the first quarter, and the Raiders built their lead to 34-19 by halftime.
Marathon improves to 12-0 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
Jake Hansen scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds for Auburndale, which returns to action Friday at home against Stratford. Tyler Pankratz added eight points and seven rebounds, and C.J. Castellano also scored eight points for the Apaches.
Marathon shot an impressive 24 of 47 from the field, while holding Auburndale to just 17 of 52 shooting.
