STEVENS POINT – Marshfield Post 54 scored seven runs in its final two at-bats to surge past D.C. Everest for a 9-5 win in a Class AAA Senior American Legion baseball regional opening round game on Friday at Bukolt Park.
Marshfield will play Plover in a second-round winners’ bracket game at 5 p.m. Saturday. Plover beat Stevens Point 4-2 on Friday.
Merrill topped Wausau 6-2 in the other completed opening round game Friday. The Merrill vs. Wisconsin Rapids game was postponed by rain with no score in the third inning, and will resume at noon on Saturday.

D.C. Everest will play Stevens Point in a losers’ bracket game following the completion of the Merrill-Rapids game at approximately 2:30 p.m. After the Plover-Marshfield game, Wausau will take on the winner of the D.C. Everest-Point game in an elimination contest at approximately 7:30 p.m.
Devyn Palmer and Ty Pankratz had RBI singles in the top of the fourth inning to put Marshfield up 2-0.
After D.C. Everest countered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, and added two more in the fifth, the Blue Devils were put into comeback mode and came through with flying colors.
The rally started with two outs in the sixth for Marshfield as Eli Drexler walked and Pankratz singled.
Drexler scored on a wild pitch and Jacob Earll delivered an RBI single to cut Marshfield’s deficit to 5-4.
Cole Hediger followed with another single and Preston Wagner reached on an error, allowing Earll to score.
After a walk to Riley Boushack, Isaiah Baierl cracked an RBI single to plate Hediger and give Marshfield to lead for good at 6-5.
Marshfield added three insurance runs in the seventh. Drexler had a one-out double, Pankratz singled, and Earll knocked in a run with another single.
Following a strikeout, Wagner and Boushack had RBI singles to put the Blue Devils on top 9-5.
Pankratz finished with three hits, and Drexler, Wagner and Earll each had two hits in the victory.
Will Voss earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing five runs while striking out three. Hediger picked up the save with two scoreless innings of relief.
