STEVENS POINT – Danica Harrison and the rest of the Auburndale girls cross country team dodged the puddles on their way to a second-place finish at the Stevens Point Pacelli Invitational on Saturday at Iverson Park.
Harrison finished in 15:07, three seconds behind Ana Breit of Pacelli, who won the meet on her home course.
Sam Karl took eighth in 16:15 to help the Apaches finish second as a team. Wittenberg-Birnamwood won the team title with 34 points as it had the third- through sixth-place finishers. Auburndale had 75 points.
“It was wet, but the team ran well through some big puddles,” Auburndale coach Jim Johnson said. “Both the girls and the boys team continue to improve, and are drawing notice from the other schools, but we still need our 4-6 runners to step it up a little bit to make it to the next level.”
The Auburndale boys team finished a distant third (109 points) behind Roshot (55) and Gillett (67).
Luke Haas took 10th in 17:21 and David Haas was 14th (17:47) for the Apaches.
Claire Pinter led the Marshfield Columbus Catholic girls, finishing 10th overall in 16:25. Travis Wienke led the boys, taking 40th. Columbus had only two runners compete in each race.
Auburndale and Columbus will compete at the Edgar Invitational at Nine Mile Forest Recreation Area in Rib Mountain on Tuesday.
