SUN PRAIRIE – The Marshfield volleyball team competed at the two-day Sun Prairie Invitational on Thursday and Friday, finishing in eighth place.
On Friday, the Tigers lost to Hortonville 2-1 (25-21, 21-25, 15-8), De Pere 2-0 (25-16, 25-22), and Luxemburg-Casco 2-0 (25-12, 25-21), and defeated Wrightstown 2-0 (25-14, 25-12).
Brooklyn Boushack had 16 kills, Alani Carter added 15, and Casey Frankland had 12 for the Tigers. Setter Taylor Barwick had 34 assists, Kati Sadowska had 41 digs and Kaydee Johnson 31 digs to lead the defense, and Sadowska and Hannah Kelnhofer each had five service aces.
In pool play on Thursday, Marshfield defeated Waupun 2-0 (25-13, 25-22), and lost its other four matches to Luxemberg-Casco 2-0 (25-9, 25-10), Manitowoc 2-0 (25-18, 25-17), DeForest 2-0 (27-25, 25-8), and Sun Prairie (25-11, 25-8).
Lindsey Steffen had 18 kills, Johnson had 16 kills and 31 digs, Sadowska had 45 digs, and Barwick had 27 assists on Day 1 of the tournament. Johnson surpassed the 1,000 career digs mark during play Thursday.
“The goal we have in attending this high-level tournament is to get better as a team and to build team chemistry,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “We did both this weekend. We learned to play faster, and I thought the girls had fun the two days we spent together. I feel like we are ready for conference competition.”
Marshfield opens Wisconsin Valley Conference play Thursday at Wisconsin Rapids.
