Columbus Catholic volleyball places seventh at Menomonie Sprawl at UW-Stout

MENOMONIE – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team competed at the two-day Menomonie Sprawl at the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Friday and Saturday, and placed seventh out of 40 teams.

On Day 1 of the tournament, the Dons went 4-0 in pool play, sweeping all four matches. Columbus beat Menomonie 25-14, 25-18; Ellsworth 25-19, 25-18; Medford 25-15, 25-21; and New Richmond 25-17, 25-13.

The Dons were placed in the Gold Bracket for the playoffs on Saturday and won one of three matches.

Columbus lost a nailbiter to Eau Claire North 26-24, 28-26, fell to Grantsburg 25-12, 25-20, and beat Osceola in the seventh-place match 25-17, 25-22.

“This tournament was a great experience for our team to play some high-caliber volleyball against some big schools,” Columbus coach Kat Egle said. “We are starting to play together as a team more and showing our potential.”

Dorci Walker had 48 kills, 10 blocks, 39 digs and 13 service aces for the Dons in their seven matches. Meghan Kibbel had 104 assists and 32 digs, Emmalee Jicinsky had 32 kills, 13 blocks and a 43 digs, Jessica Jakopin added 27 kills and 13 blocks, and Sydney Litwaitis had a team-high 75 digs for the Dons.

Columbus Catholic will play a nonconference match at Auburndale on Tuesday.
