Stratford boys have two finish in top five, take fourth place at Iola-Scandinavia Cross Country Invite

IOLA – James Heeg finished fourth and Andrew Chapel took fifth to lead the Stratford boys to a fourth-place finish at the Iola-Scandinavia T-Bird Invitational on Tuesday at Iola Winter Sports Park.

Heeg was fourth in 17:27.95 and Chapel was fifth in 17:30.09 for the Tigers, who finished with a team score of 129 points.

Freedom’s Jack Reiter won the boys race in 17:15.83 to lead the Irish to the team title. Winneconne was second and Stevens Point Pacelli third.

Isaac Thompson was 36th in 19:25.52, Cade Bruesewitz finished 43rd in 19:42.15, and Cody Miller took 57th in 20:10.19 to round out Stratford’s top five.

The Freedom girls team also won the meet championship with three runners finishing in the top nine. Winneconne was second, Weyauwega-Fremont took third and Stratford finished seventh.

Lauren Kraus led the Stratford girls, taking 33rd in 23:48.70. Ella Heidmann placed 44th, Lydia Golbach was 48th, Baily Linzmeier finished 51st and Sarah Zuelke took 65th for the Tigers.

Abby Bartel of Weyauwega-Fremont won the girls 5-kilometer race in 19:41.23, more than one minute ahead of Freedom’s Macy Verhasselt, who was second in 21:00.08.

Stratford’s next meet is Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Marshfield Invitational at Frey Field in Spencer.
