WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids scored a pair of goals in the second half and held Marshfield scoreless for the final 77 minutes to pull out a 2-1 win in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer match Thursday night at Washington Elementary School.

Kyle Tremelling scored on an assist from Trevor Cassidy just 2:52 into the game to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

That would be all Marshfield (2-2-1, 1-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) would get against a Wisconsin Rapids defense that held the Tigers to just four shots on the goal the rest of the way, all of which were saved by Justin Abraham.

The Tigers’ lead remained 1-0 until 12:25 into the second half when Wisconsin Rapids’ Adam Kaup tied the game on a penalty kick.

Just 9 ½ minutes later, Isaias Escalera scored for the Raiders and their defense held the final 24 minutes.

Trevor Cassidy finished with nine saves in goal for Marshfield, which had 25 fouls. Wisconsin Rapids (3-1, 1-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference) was called for 17.

Both teams will play nonconference road games Saturday. Marshfield is at Onalaska and Wisconsin Rapids will play at De Pere.
