Pittsville slides past Spencer in nonconference volleyball action

PITTSVILLE – Pittsville outlasted Spencer in a tight nonconference volleyball match, winning 32-30, 25-23, 25-21, on Thursday night at Pittsville High School.

Julia Redmond, Bekah Downs and Maddie Carpenter each had five kills for Pittsville. Redmond had a team-high 12 digs, and Helen Durrant had 13 assists for the Panthers.

“It was nice to get that first win,” Pittsville coach Buff Heller said. “We still have lots of room to improvement. Improving every match is out goal.”

Heavyn Kind and Jorie Meyer each had 10 kills, and Zaleski Mannigel had 18 assists for Spencer. Elexa Post had a team-high 16 digs and Kind added 13 for the Rockets.

Pittsville will compete at the Neillsville Invitational on Saturday, while Spencer is off until next Thursday, Sept. 12, when it opens its Cloverbelt Conference East Division season with a home meet against Owen-Withee.
