Marshfield freshman football scores late to beat Wausau West

WAUSAU – Carson Matis scored a touchdown and Garrett Willuweit added the two-point conversion with 30 seconds to play to give the Marshfield freshman football team a 15-14 win over Wausau West on Thursday at West High School.

Marshfield quarterback Trevor Foemmel hit Matis for a 28-yard touchdown pass in the final minute and Willuweit pushed in for the winning points for the Tigers.

Foemmel also had a 17-yard touchdown pass to Luke LeMoine and Noah Peterson kicked the extra point for Marshfield’s other score.

Bennett Lang and Matis had interceptions, Logan Metcalfe recovered a fumble, and Ben Dietsche had a blocked punt for the Tigers, who were led in tackles by Isaac Dagit and Sam Meverden.

Marshfield hosts Stevens Point Ben Franklin at 4:30 p.m. next Thursday, Sept. 19.
