TOMAHAWK – Auburndale senior quarterback Cooper Weinfurter threw for four touchdowns and ran for another – all in the first half – to lead the Apaches to a convincing 56-6 win over Tomahawk in a Marawood Conference football game Friday night at Tomahawk High School.
Weinfurter ran for a 19-yard touchdown, and threw TD passes of 4 yards to Hunter Wright and 14 yards to Dylan Paun to give Auburndale (3-1, 1-1 Marawood Conference) a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Apaches put the game away in the second quarter, scoring four more touchdowns to go up 49-6 by halftime.
Weinfurter had touchdown passes of 35 yards to Paul Kollross and 37 yards to Wright, and Paun ran for touchdowns of 57 and 4 yards in the second quarter.
Hunter Wright added a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter for the game’s final score.
Auburndale outgained Tomahawk (0-4, 0-2 Marawood) 415-123, and Weinfurter finished 9-for-13 for 173 yards and the four TD throws.
Kyle Peterson led the Apaches’ ground attack, running 21 times for 93 yards, and Paun added 86 yards on just five carries.
Hunter Godard had a pair of interceptions to lead the Auburndale defense.
Auburndale (1-1 Marawood Conference) plays another conference game at Marathon next Friday, Sept. 20.
