MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team split a pair of games at its home tournament on Saturday at Griese Park.
The Dons lost their first game of the season, falling to Arcadia 3-2, before bouncing back to top La Crosse Aquinas 3-1.
Arcadia, who defeated Columbus in the WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinals in a shootout a year ago, scored twice in the first 4:28 before the Dons stormed back.
Tom Nystrom scored on a penalty kick at the 7:09 mark and Kellen Delaney added a goal, off an assist from Zach Olson, in the 32nd minute to tie the game at 2-2.
Arcadia sent home what proved to be the game-winner in the 47th minute as the Dons were shutout in the second half.
Wyatt Drexler had eight saves in goal for the Dons.
Delaney and Jadon Nienast scored in the first half of the win against Aquinas, and Nystrom had another goal late in the game as the Dons controlled play.
Columbus outshot Aquinas 23-9 in the win, with Drexler only needing to make two saves.
Arcadia (6-1-1) won the tournament title, beating Stevens Point Pacelli in its other game, 6-1. Pacelli topped Aquinas 5-0 in the other game.
Columbus Catholic (5-1-3 overall) plays Monday night at Stevens Point Pacelli in a Central Wisconsin Conference game.
