MARSHFIELD – Sam Roherty scored in the third minute and that proved to be all the Marshfield boys soccer team would need as the Tigers blanked Wausau East 4-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference match on Tuesday at Griese Park.
Marshfield’s defense was stingy, allowing just four shots on goal, all of which were saved by goalkeeper Trevor Cassidy.
Roherty’s early goal held until 6:24 into the second half when the Tigers opened the flood gates.
Bennett Koehn, on an assist from Spencer Frey, scored in the 52nd minute, and Kyle Tremelling added a pair of goals in the 54th and 59th minutes to push the Tigers’ lead to 4-0.
Marshfield is now 5-3-1 overall and 3-1 in the WVC, maintaining its position in second place behind unbeaten Wausau West. The Tigers play at West (7-0, 4-0 WVC) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
