Columbus Catholic volleyball wins four of five at Diocesan Tournament

CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic volleyball team finished 4-1 at the Diocesan Tournament on Saturday at Chippewa Falls McDonell High School.

The Dons defeated La Crosse Aquinas 2-1 (22-25, 25-16, 15-12), Stevens Point Pacelli 2-1 (17-25, 25-9, 15-7), Eau Claire Regis 2-0 (25-22, 25-17), and Wausau Newman Catholic 2-1 (25-23, 14-25, 15-11) for their four wins. Columbus’ only loss came to McDonell as it fell 2-1 (23-25, 25-21, 15-5).

“We played against high-caliber volleyball teams today and the girls were able to step it up and take it to the next level,” Columbus Catholic coach Kat Egle said. “We continue to grow as a team.”

Dorci Walker had 44 kills, 61 digs, 11 blocks and eight service aces for the Dons. Setter Meghan Kibbel piled up 100 assists and 32 digs, Emmalee Jicinsky had 23 kills, 40 digs, and 11 blocks, and Jess Jakopin added 34 kills and 11 blocks in the Dons’ five matches.

Maria Taylor added 36 digs, Sydney Litwaitis had 44 digs and six aces, and Ashley Herman had a team-high 12 blocks for Columbus Catholic.

The Dons hosts Wisconsin Rapids Assumption for a nonconference match at 7:15 p.m. Monday. The match will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com/live-sports.
