Marshfield boys soccer surges in second half to top D.C. Everest

WESTON – The Marshfield boys soccer team won for the fifth-straight time and pulled into sole possession of first place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference with a 2-1 win over D.C. Everest on Monday night at D.C. Everest Junior High.

Marshfield is now 5-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and 7-3-1 overall, and holds a three-point lead in the WVC standings having played, and won, one more match than Wausau West. D.C. Everest falls to 4-5-1 and 2-3 in the Valley.

The game was the completion of a suspended game from Sept. 12. Play was resumed with approximately 15 minutes remaining in the first half and D.C. Everest leading 1-0.

The score remained the game until Marshfield struck for a goal to tie the match 10 minutes into the second half as Alejandro Mayagoitia scored.

Kyle Tremelling added a goal on a free kick 10 minutes later for what proved to be the game-winner as the Marshfield defense held Everest scoreless the remainder of the game.

Trevor Cassidy finished with eight saves in goal for the Tigers.

Marshfield will play a nonconference match at Rhinelander on Tuesday.
