Marshfield earns two honorable mention all-conference spots as WVC girls golf tournament wraps up

STEVENS POINT – The Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament wrapped up Wednesday with the sixth and final meet of the season at Wisconsin River Golf Club.

Stevens Point put the finishing touches on the 2019 WVC girls golf championship by placing first with a score of 167. The Panthers won all six meets in the tournament series this season.

Wausau West/East and Wisconsin Rapids tied for second with scores of 193, D.C. Everest was fourth with a 225, and Marshfield took fifth with a 234.

Abby Nickel of Stevens Point shot a 38 to win medalist honors and wrap up the individual conference championship. She won four of the six meets, including the final three to edge Wausau West/East’s Jasmine Yang, who won the other two meets during the season.

Ally Nickel, Leah Earnest and Riley Pechinski, all of Stevens Point, earned the other first-team all-conference spots by finishing in the top five.

Marshfield’s Anna Weis finished in a three-way tie for 10th after shooting a 50 on Wednesday, and earned all-conference honorable mention status by finishing 11th in the overall standings.

Morgan Meyer also was an honorable mention recipient for Marshfield, finishing 13th in the overall standings. She tied for 17th place with a 57 at Wednesday’s meet.

Bryssa Lenz finished in that three-way tie with Meyer with a 57, Sophie Lee had a 70, and Tia Campbell shot a 75 for Marshfield.

Marshfield is off until the WIAA Division 1 girls golf regional meet at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids on Oct. 2.
