Stevens Point snaps Marshfield boys soccer team’s win streak at five

STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point scored three first-half goals and Marshfield couldn’t recover, as the Panthers won 4-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Thursday at the Portage County Youth Soccer Complex.

The loss snaps the Tigers’ five-match winning streak and they fall to 7-4-1 overall and 5-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Stevens Point is now 8-2-1 overall and 4-2 in conference action.

Owen Williams scored at the 8:29 mark and Jake Williams added a penalty kick goal just 3 minutes later to give Stevens Point a quick 2-0 lead.

Kyle Tremelling retaliated with a penalty kick of his own for Marshfield at the 13:47 mark to cut the deficit in half, but Point regained its two-goal advantage in the 29th minute when Jake Williams scored again.

Thomas Huspeni added the final goal with 2:35 remaining in the game to give the Panthers a three-goal lead.

Stevens Point dominated play offensively, outshooting Marshfield 19-4 on goal. Trevor Cassidy had 15 saves in goal for Marshfield. Spencer Banks made four saves for Stevens Point.

Marshfield’s next game is Tuesday at home against Wisconsin Rapids. The game will start at 7 p.m. at Heiting Community Stadium and will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com/live-sports.
