SPENCER – The Stratford boys and Marshfield JV girls won the team titles at the Spencer Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Frey Field.
James Heeg finished second in 17:56.4 to lead the Stratford boys, who finished with 42 points, two ahead of the Marshfield JV. Colby/Abbotsford was fourth, Spencer fifth, Loyal seventh and Pittsville eighth. Marshfield Columbus Catholic had an incomplete team with just three runners.
Cole Schairer of Wittenberg-Birnamwood won the boys race in 17:52.6, four seconds ahead of Heeg. Andrew Chapel of Stratford was third in 17:57.3.
Marshfield had three top-10 finishes. Elijah Wenzel took fifth in 18:35.9, Eben Lonsdale was eighth in 18:55.8 and Myles Jensen took 10th in 19:01.3.
Andrew Scheer was seventh in 18:53.7 to lead Columbus Catholic.
Nick Kleparski was 15th in 19:46 to lead Colby/Abbotsford, Pittsville’s top finisher was Sam Bowden, who was 34th in 21:05.6, and Spencer’s top runner was Cameron Nieman, who was 31st in 20:43.
The Marshfield JV girls team finished with 42 points, 15 in front of Stratford. Spencer was third, Colby/Abbotsford took fourth, Loyal fifth, and Columbus Catholic seventh. Pittsville had an incomplete team.
Savannah Schley of Loyal won the girls race in 21:07.1, 59 seconds ahead of Jenna Stone of Wittenberg-Birnamwood. Ella Heidmann of Stratford was third in 22:28 and Jerica Mueller of Marshfield was fourth in 22:37.7.
Lydia Golbach added a ninth-place finish for Stratford (23:04.8), and Elaina Kirschnik of Marshfield was 10th in 23:10.0.
Emily Wehrman led Spencer, taking 12th in 23:24.8; Mercedes Sarkkinen was Colby/Abbotsford’s top runner, taking 16th in 23:48.2; and Niah Jakel topped Columbus Catholic, finishing 24th in 24:53.3.
