AMHERST – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team avenged its only blemish on its Central Wisconsin Conference record this season with a 3-1 win over Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia/Rosholt on Thursday at Amherst High School.

With the win, the Dons break a tie for the conference lead with AIR, after the two teams tied in the CWC opener back in late August and then each ran the table through the rest of the first half of the season.

Columbus Catholic is now 9-1-3 overall and 7-0-1 in CWC play. Amherst/Iola-Scandinavia/Rosholt falls to 7-3-2 and 6-1-1 in the conference.

Zach Olson broke a scoreless tie with a goal, off an assist from Sammy Neville, at the 35:33 mark of the first half to give the Dons a 1-0 lead they would hold into halftime.

Kellen Delaney added a goal 6:33 into the second half, and Dylan Porter made it 3-0 with a goal in the 75th minute.

Amherst’s only goal came with 2:48 to go.

Columbus Catholic outshot the Falcons 14-6 overall and 12-4 on goal, with Dons’ goalkeeper Wyatt Drexler making three saves in the win.

Columbus Catholic returns to action Monday when it hosts Northland Lutheran at 5 p.m. at Griese Park.
