STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield volleyball team pulled off a big road win on Thursday night, knocking off Wisconsin Valley Conference leading Stevens Point 3-2 at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
Marshfield came back from a 2-1 deficit to win 21-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 15-8. The Tigers are now 3-3 this season in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, while Stevens Point drops to 5-1 after suffering its first loss.
“This is a huge win for us,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “We have lost our last two five-set matches and we needed to prove to ourselves we could do it. As the stats show, this was a total team effort. Our defense was phenomenal.”
Four Marshfield players had at least 15 digs in the win, with Kaydee Johnson leading the way with 24. Kati Sadowska finished with 16 digs, and Hannah Kelnhofer and Taylor Barwick each had 15.
Lindsey Steffen led the Marshfield offense with 20 kills, including five block kills. Brooklyn Boushack added 12 kills with four blocks, and Barwick had 27 assists as well for the Tigers.
Marshfield is off until next Thursday, Oct. 3, when it hosts Merrill.
