AUBURNDALE – The Stratford football team pushed its winning streak, and shutout streak, to six games in a row after jumping on Auburndale early and cruising to a 55-0 win on Friday night at Auburndale High School.
Stratford quarterback Max Schwabe had a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs in the first quarter as Stratford took a 16-0 lead.
The Tigers pushed the lead to 34-0 by halftime as Schwabe threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Beau Gross and Devin Dennee had TD runs of 7 and 3 yards.
Dennee added another touchdown run in the third quarter, and Chase Flink and Karter Stuttgen had scoring runs as well in the second half as the Tigers won going away.
Stratford (6-0, 3-0 Marawood Conference) allowed 57 total yards and just five first downs as it controlled both sides of the line of scrimmage as it officially clinched its 28th-straight WIAA playoff berth. The Tigers have yet to allow a point this season.
The Tigers racked up 490 yards of offense and had 25 first downs, putting together numerous long scoring drives.
Matt Handrick led the rushing attack for Stratford with 86 yards on 11 carries. Six other Tigers had at least 22 yards on the ground, including Schwabe, who rushed for 29 yards and threw for 201 more. Flink caught three passes for 116 yards to lead the passing game.
Cooper Weinfurter was an efficient 9-for-15 passing for Auburndale, but was held to just 45 yards. Paul Kollross had four catches for 23 yards for the Apaches (4-2, 2-2 Marawood Conference).
Stratford hosts Marathon in a Marawood game next Friday, Oct. 4, while Auburndale will host Mayville for a nonconference game. Auburndale will need to win its final conference game, on Oct. 18 at Rib Lake/Prentice, in order to earn a WIAA playoff spot.
