LOYAL – Loyal overcame a 2-1 deficit to upend the Columbus Catholic volleyball team 3-2, and hand the Dons their first Cloverbelt Conference East Division loss of the season.

Loyal won 25-23, 9-25, 11-25, 26-24, 15-10, to remain unbeaten at 3-0 in the Cloverbelt East and pull into a first-place tie with Gilman. Columbus Catholic, the defending conference champion, falls to 2-1.

“Loyal played great defense and received well against us,” Columbus Catholic coach Kat Egle said. “We made many unforced errors that we just need to clean up. Our whole team was off tonight. Our setter (Meghan Kibbel) was hurt a bit and did her best to play through it. We hope to come back stronger and learn from this loss.”

Dorci Walker had 14 kills, 13 digs and nine blocks and Kibbel finished with 42 assists for the Dons.

Emmalee Jicinsky added 11 kills and 17 digs, Jessica Jakopin added 11 kills and eight blocks, and Sydney Litwaitis had a team-high 22 digs for Columbus Catholic.

The Dons will have to make a quick turn around as they play at Colby on Tuesday before hosting Greenwood on Thursday.
