AUBURNDALE – Following a scoreless first quarter, Auburndale ripped off four-straight touchdowns over the middle two periods to take command and finished off a 26-8 nonconference football win over Mayville on Friday night at Auburndale High School.
Auburndale quarterback Cooper Weinfurter completed 14 of 19 for 140 yards and three touchdowns. He had TD passes of 2 and 22 yards to Dylan Paun in the second quarter, helping the Apaches take a 14-0 lead going into halftime in their final home game of the regular season.
In the third quarter, Weinfurter hit Fletcher Raab for a 5-yard touchdown and Paun cruised for a 47-yard touchdown run to make it 26-0.
Mayville (2-5) scored in the final minute of the third quarter for its only score.
Auburndale (5-2) outgained the Cardinals 237-150 and forced three turnovers, including interceptions by Paun and Schuyler Gilhausen.
Auburndale plays another nonconference game next Friday, Oct. 11, at North Fond du Lac. The Apaches finish the regular season with a road game at Rib Lake/Prentice on Oct. 18, needing a win to qualify for the WIAA playoffs.
