CADOTT – The Spencer/Columbus Catholic football team became playoff eligible with a hard-fought 28-22 win over Cadott on Friday night at Cadott High School.

The Rockets turned to their ground game to accumulate all of their offense, literally. Spencer/Columbus did not attempt a pass and ran the ball 55 times for 425 yards.

Following a scoreless first quarter, Austin Bacon had touchdown runs of 49 and 65 yards to give Spencer/Columbus a 14-0 lead.

Cadott scored on a big play of its own, a 62-yard run by Brady Spaeth, to cut it to 14-8 going into halftime.

Cole Timmler’s only rushing attempt in the game turned into a 24-yard touchdown 4 minutes into the second half as the Rockets went up 22-8.

Briggs added another touchdown before Eden Jacobson scored from the 10 for Spencer/Columbus midway through the fourth.

Cadott scored with 3:08 remaining but the Rockets were able to hold on to the lead from there and improve to 4-3 overall this season and 4-2 in the Cloverbelt Conference.

Bacon finished with 204 yards and Jacobson added 136 in the win for the Rockets.

Spencer/Columbus plays at Eau Claire Regis on Thursday and finishes its regular season Oct. 18 at home against Altoona. The Rockets will have to win at least once to secure a spot in the WIAA playoffs. At .500 in conference play, teams are eligible but not guaranteed a spot in the postseason field.
