STEVENS POINT – Marshfield’s two participants failed to qualify for the state tournament after competing at the WIAA Division 1 Girls Golf Sectional meet on Tuesday at Stevens Point Country Club.
Morgan Meyer shot a 103 to tie for 27th place and Anna Weis tied for 31st with a 108 for the Tigers. Both juniors earned spots in the sectional as individual qualifiers from the Wisconsin Rapids Regional that was held Oct. 2.
Tomah won the sectional team title with a 360 and Stevens Point was second with a 363 to earn spots at the 2019 WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament, which will be held Oct. 14-15 at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
The top three individuals not on the two qualifying teams also earn spots at the state tournament.
Brin Neumann of Tomah was meet medalist with an 82. Jessica Hagman of New Richmond was second with an 84, Jaden Woiwode of River Falls had an 85 to finish in a tie for third, and Paige Hillman of Hudson tied for fifth with an 87 to earn the three individual spots. Hillman defeated River Falls’ Hannah Harper on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to clinch the final spot.
Stevens Point’s Abby Nickel tied for third with an 85, Riley Pechinski had an 88 to finish seventh, and Ally Nickle was eighth with an 89 to lead the Panthers.
Wisconsin Rapids finished sixth in the team standings with a 414. Abby Wangen led the Raiders, taking 16th with a 96.
