NORTH FOND DU LAC – Copper Weinfurter had three long touchdowns, two on punt returns in the first half, and the Auburndale defense did its job as the Apaches rolled to a 40-0 nonconference win over North Fond du Lac on Friday night at North Fond du Lac High School.
Weinfurter had a 64-yard touchdown run and a 65-yard punt return for a score in the final 2 minutes of the first quarter to push Auburndale out to a 13-0 lead.
After a Kyle Peterson 16-yard touchdown run, Weinfurter returned another punt for a score, this time from 50 yards out, to make it 28-0 by halftime in favor of the Apaches.
Schuyler Gilhausen and Dylan Paun added rushing touchdowns in the third quarter for Auburndale to finish off the scoring.
Weinfurter, Gilhausen and Fletcher Raab had interceptions on defense as the Apaches (6-2) pitched the shutout.
Auburndale will finish its regular-season schedule with a Marawood Conference game at Rib Lake/Prentice next Friday, Oct. 18. The Apaches need a win to clinch a spot in the WIAA playoffs, which begin Oct. 25.
