MARSHFIELD – Wausau West scored three unanswered goals in the second half to erase a two-goal deficit and defeat Marshfield 3-2 on Tuesday night at Heiting Community Stadium, clinching the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer championship.

The conference title is Wausau West’s first since tying Marshfield for first place in 2005.

Bennett Koehn scored at the 4:28 mark, off an assist from Sam Roherty, and Roherty added a goal himself at 32:09 to give Marshfield a 2-0 lead.

That led held until the second half when West stormed back.

Luis Cortes scored 2:50 into the half, Kyle Durr tied it with a goal 20 minutes later, and Nick Raasch hit what proved to be the game-winner with 4:40 remaining as the Warriors held Marshfield scoreless over the final 58 minutes of the game.

Marshfield finishes the WVC season with an 8-3-1 record and is now 10-6-2 overall. West moves to 13-1-1 and 10-1 in the Valley, with a game at Stevens Point remaining on Thursday.

Marshfield will finish its regular-season schedule with a nonconference game at Heiting Community Stadium on Thursday at 6 p.m. against Ashwaubenon.
