Marshfield freshman football team blows past Sparta

SPARTA – The Marshfield freshman football team had its offense clicking on Thursday as it rolled past Sparta 54-20 at Sparta High School.

Marshfield scored eight touchdowns, seven coming from 34 yards out or further.

Garrett Willuweit had touchdown runs of 58, 54, and 44 yards, and Jeff Marsh had a 34-yard TD run and an 80-yard kickoff return for a score to lead the Tigers’ attack.

Quarterback Trevor Foemmel had a 6-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion run, and threw TD passes of 57 yards to Sam Meverden and 53 yards to Carson Matis.

Noah Peterson added four extra point kicks and Owen Hanson recovered a fumble for Marshfield.

Brett Franklin and Cliff Hansen were the Tigers’ leading tacklers.

Coach Gary Zopfi praised the excellent downfield blocking of Sebastian Grancovitz, Ben Dietsche, Noah Peterson, Andrew Marsh and Nick Spencer.

Marshfield finishes its season Tuesday at D.C. Everest. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Stiehm Stadium.
